Here, the is actually a part of the next line, but because of how it’s sung it feels better to write it here.
The literal meaning of is purposefully or deliberately. It is technically incorrect Japanese, but it has this sense of it being a love song here a bit.
However, another reading that I’ve seen thrown around is that it’s . Some people think this song is about about the singer, Sheena, expressing her love for music. So it might be that she was “able to find her craft (music)”.
It might be purposefully ambiguous in its writing, I’m not sure.
Here, the is actually a part of the next line, but because of how it’s sung it feels better to write it here.
I love the sound of this song and wondered for a long time what Sheena was singing about. Reading it literally doesn’t really help, but I found an interpretation on a music blog that helped me realize the meaning behind the song.
I’ll paraphrase what they said here, and add my own thoughts:
The song seems to initially champion materialism, fast fashion, and luxury. But in other parts of the song it’s evident that Sheena is singing about something else.
So the literal reading is incorrect, and that can be made evident from the fact that the song falls into talking about love and life in the chorus. And that the lead into the chorus has the - until that point - very unexpected statement: “”.
You could read this as a love song, but that doesn’t exactly sit right either. You could read it as being about this materialism, and how despite it (or because of it), two people were able to meet and fall in love in the craziness of it in Japan.
But the reading I like the most of this song is that it’s not exclusively about love. Rather, it’s about not being tricked into thinking that materialism is the most important thing, and that there are things much more valuable, that will allow you to live much more luxoriously that are just a part of life (and you can’t afford them because they aren’t material or monetary).
In some way, the blog goes on to state, that it can kind of be a love song about anything (life), but that maybe for Sheena specifically it’s a love song about music. And that she feels a connection with the listener (or with music abstractly) that she was able to reach out through her music.
